Stop allowing your past to beat you up! There are many things we did in our past that we are not proud of, and we can become bound by the regrets of our past. However, we can never run this race for God by looking backward! As much as our past is a part of us, sometimes we like to reminisce on the “good ole days,” but I would like to think that my better days “with Jesus” are ahead of me and not behind me. Not only has Jesus forgiven me of my past sins, but he has also healed me from past wounds, hurts, disappointments, and failures. Praise God that he has set me free from my past!
In regards to time, I know that we are accustomed to saying: past, present, future, but now that we have a relationship with God, who has provided us with eternal life and has prepared an eternal home for us in heaven, we should view time as beginning with the future, into the present, then out-of-the past; thus, future, present, past! My future defines who I am, not my past. We should be future-oriented, as Paul was, “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Philippians 3:13) and not allow our past to influence us, hinder us or hold us back from reaching our full potential in God.
