Oftentimes, when the end of a certain year approaches, many people perform an end-of-year reflection of their life. This type of reflection is a key tool for personal development. These reflection tools are comprised of: rejoicing in successes, reevaluating failures, mourning the loss of loved ones, just to name a few. However, the reflection that God wants us to perform does not include looking back in the past but looking in the “mirror” at the present. Specifically, the mirror is God’s Word (James 1:22-25), and he wants to reveal you to you! Just as a mirror reveals how we appear on the outside, the Word of God reveals what we are on the inside. The main purpose of owning a mirror is to see yourself and make the necessary changes for yourself to look as clean and neat as possible. As we look into the mirror of God’s Word, we see ourselves as we really are, and the areas that God wants us to clean up. Self-examination is never easy but necessary to maintain a prosperous relationship with God through His Word. God wants us to become a better version of who we are now, which will result in spiritual growth (fruit) in the future. As you navigate through this year, ask God to show you yourself through his Word, so that you can present to him a better version of you in 2022.
