God hates a lying tongue (Proverbs 6:16-17).

Whenever we speak the truth, the Spirit of God is at work, but whenever we tell a lie, our flesh opens the door for Satan to go to work. Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44).

Why do people lie?

  1. To cover or hide something (sin)
  2. To put themselves in a more favorable light (self-glory)
  3. Don’t want to admit that they are wrong
  4. To protect oneself from the threat of physical harm (self-preservation) – Afraid of consequences
  5. To avoid being punished
  6. To win the admiration of others – (self-promotion)
  7. To get out of an awkward situations
  8. To obtain a reward not otherwise readily obtainable

How to unlearn this behavior and avoid falling into the (trap) Web of Lies!

  1. Tell the truth! – Trust God to work it out! He doesn’t need your help.
  2. Do not be ashamed of who you are! Look to please God and not impress people.
  3. Don’t care what people say or think about you!
  4. Do not justify lies (“white lies”) for the sake of not hurting someone. (Do not condone bad behavior)
  5. It is nothing wrong with being wrong.
  6. Hold yourself accountable – whenever you speak, even if no one will find out what you said.
