“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” – Psalm 122:1, here the psalmist David expressed his excitement for being asked to go to the house of the LORD. Do you have this same excitement about going to church services? Attending public worship services unto the Lord is where God provides worshipers with spiritual encouragement when facing difficult times, spiritual inspiration to love and show compassion to others, and spiritual motivation to draw even closer to the Almighty God.
However, in addition to public worship, there are some benefits from private fellowship with God that you may not receive in a public gathering. Like the psalmist, not only should you be excited for public worship towards God but also private fellowship with God. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” – Psalm 91:1. This “secret place” mentioned is not a physical place but a spiritual place of fellowship with God. The most important part of a Saint’s life is the part that only God sees, the “hidden time” of communion and worship with Him. This hidden act of fellowship with God enables your public life of obedience and service to the Lord. It is a place to elevate your mind to focus on heavenly things and de-clutter your mind of earthly things. It is a place of spiritual intimacy where God will fill your soul with abundant joy. The longer you dwell in your secret place, the more overwhelming the joy of the Lord will be. David described this wonderful experience perfectly in Psalm 23:5, “my cup runneth over,” PRAISE GOD!
Spending time alone with God is not a replacement for public worship, but your private fellowship with God will enhance public service toward God. It will also increase your desire to “dwell in the house of the Lord!” – Psalm 27:4. The great thing about visiting your secret place is that there are no limitations on when you can enter in or how long you can stay. The only limitation to your secret place is your availability. “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly” – Matthew 6:18. I Thank God for the desire and opportunity to come out and worship Him and receive a Word. I also Thank Him that we have an opportunity to praise Him and talk with Him in our private time in that secret place.🙏🏾
