Live every day with a purpose; it may be your last.

May 24, 2022 By Gerald F Gibbs Jr. 1 Comment

God sent word through the prophet Isaiah that due to the consequences of King Hezekiah’s sickness, death was imminent and implored him to set his house in order (Isaiah 38:1). Wow! That is life changing news to hear and process. How would you respond if you knew that your time on the earth was coming to an end? What would you do? Many would put together a “bucket list” of things to accomplish and experience before their time expires; however, entering into a right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ should be at the top of that list.

In truth, none of us knows when we are going to die. Unexpected events happen every day, so God’s message to King Hezekiah applies to you today, is your house in order? Your “house” represents your spiritual condition before God. We are born with the spiritual sickness of sin (Romans 3:23), and if left unaddressed, our sin sickness will result in eternal death: “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Only obedience to God’s Word and the new birth of the Holy Ghost can put things in order in your house. “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5)

Day in and day out, many spend an absorbent amount of time accomplishing their own desired purpose. Their careers, jobs, families, relationships, vacationing, and entertainment take precedent in their lives, leaving little to no time to invest in God, leaving their spiritual condition neglected and their spiritual house in shambles. However, every morning that God wakes you up and allows you to see another day, He’s given you more time on this earth. Yet, that time doesn’t belong to you; it belongs to God. Let me explain: Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose on the 3rd day to provide a remedy for our sin sickness and to provide us with the gift of eternal life. However, receiving that gift does not come without investing time into your relationship with God. Galatians 6:8 clearly explains the concept of time investment (sowing) into spiritual things, “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

Replace your bucket list with a “blessed list” of things to do to get your house in order. First, you must make time for God to better your relationship with him in prayer. Prayer is your way of communicating to God that you need, trust and depend on him. Second, you must make time to better yourself by assembling in a church to hear a fresh, anointed word from God. Hearing the word is God’s way of communicating to you what is required of you to keep your house clean and Holy. Lastly, you must surrender and yield in obedience to God’s word, which is how you respond in love to hearing God’s message.

Many take the time God gives them for granted until it is about to be taken from them, and they soon realize that they don’t have as much time as they thought. So, when you are faced with a life-changing situation beyond your control, the best thing you can do is focus on the things you can control and live every day with a purpose of a better relationship with God. Seek the Lord while you have time and while you are able so that when your time ends upon the earth, it will NOT be unto eternal damnation but be the beginning of eternity with Jesus Christ.
